The steampunk Motorised gauge kit
The perfect addition to any steampunk invention or costume; a motorised gauge kit. The gears rotate, the hand sweeps over the kraken readout, it’s easy to install and it looks fabulous! I took the first five kits to a Steampunk event in Whitby to ‘gauge’ interest and another trader ordered five more before the event had even started. The first five all sold by lunchtime, so very popular! Knowing how creative steampunk enthusiasts are, I thought it would be great to provide you with the opportunity to decorate the gauge to match your costume or invention. If you don't need to know 'Kraken Proximity', you can easily flip over the printed read out or use the template at the bottom of the page and invent a new amazing purpose for your gauge! The kit is really easy to assemble or the brass version is available ready assembled due to popular demand! Easily installed in thick or thin wood, plastic, leather or fabric etc, the kit contains 29 parts and even includes a plastic gem! Screws and axles are real brass and stainless steel so don't need painting. The plastic parts are either white or clear to make them easy to paint. You just need to decide on the colours and how you wish to apply the finish. I'd suggest metallic aerosol paint and metallic markers, but you could equally well use paint and a brush, see the instruction video for more information (button below). The kit either comes with a switched 2 x AA battery holder which will run it for days, or a connector that allows it to run on between 4 and 12 volts. To assemble the kit, you'll just need small flat bladed and Phillips screwdrivers and tweezers to pick up the little screws as they can be fiddly. I would recommend fixing it together with Super glue, although other types of glue that can stick metal and plastic could be used. ● The kit contains 29 parts ● Also available ready assembled ● No special tools required for assembly ● 115mm (4.5") overall diameter ● Gauge window is 87mm (3.5") diameter ● Extends 45mm (1.75") behind front of gauge ● Assembly instructions at https://youtu.be/C4wyXkPrzjI ● Constructed from laser cut acrylic, 3D printed PLA and metal components ● Low current 3 volt motor runs for days on 2 x AA batteries or from any voltage up to 12 volts (select when purchasing). Having bought a 3D printer in order to print Florence the automaton's head, I realised it would be possible to design a gauge kit that combined amazing 3D printed components with laser cut and engraved parts. Loads of prototypes and experiments later, I'm finally very happy with the result. I was particularly pleased to find everything fitted inside the enclosure making a really exciting kit package! Producing it as a kit also kept costs to a minimum, hence the fact the kit is only £25.00 + p&p.
