A commissioned free standing steampunk barometer built for someone who loves boating. An illuminated clock provides the time, whilst interior and exterior temperatures and the humidity are indicated using mechanical displays. The weather forecast is represented by an animated nautical scene, in which two Victorians are drinking tea on a boat. Their clothing and the state of the boat’s sail indicate the predicted weather. The sea has moving waves and rises and falls with the real local tide. An ebb and flow indicator shows the current tide cycle. The weather prediction scene’s lighting is synchronised with the local sunrise and sunset times. Each hour a mechanical flute indicates weather trends by playing a tune derived from the last 24 hours of pressure readings. It sleeps during the night and during the day until movement is detected, when it displays the current weather readings.
